Four very busy days unpacking the household goods we moved from the Phaeton to the house. Four sleeps in our brand new bed … in our brand new home. Then it was time to hop on a plane — two … if you want to be precise — and head east to Virginia to bring the household goods we had in storage in Winchester back to Colorado. We're back now and it's time to tell the story of our mad-dash.
After a long trip across the country, we got a good night’s rest before the work began. We loaded up a 20-foot truck on our own in Winchester … took us all day. Drove some 1,500+ miles (2,400+ km) cross-country from Virginia to Colorado in three days … with a detour to Elkhart, Indiana to check out the ‘baby’ motorhomes built by Phoenix USA. Unloaded the truck in the Springs … took less than two hours … with the help of two guys we hired through U-Haul’s MovingHelp program. And we did it all in just six days … five if you don’t count the travel day to get from the Springs to Winchester. Whew!

to a beautiful view of Pike’s Peak … glowing pink as the sun rose to the east.
Our flight from COS to ATL was a special one … we carried the remains of
a soldier who had given the ultimate sacrifice. As our aircraft pulled
up to the jetway, the honor guard was waiting to take up position
on the tarmac to receive and escort the fallen soldier.
Before leaving Winchester, we got rid of some cabinets at the local dump.
The U-Haul truck wasn’t as comfy as our motorhome, but it got the job of
moving our household goods done well enough. We did have room on the front
seat for a box of snacks to keep the driver fed on the long haul back to Colorado.

… to this on 10 March after we unloaded the truck. The move is complete!
What was our reward after our whirlwind trip to bring our household goods west — successfully dodging weather along the way that could have made the drive back to Colorado quite miserable. I'll let a photo answer the question. They do say, after all, that a photo is worth a thousand words.

We’re not ones to let grass grow under our feet. We began unpacking boxes yesterday after we returned the truck to U-Haul … but there’s still a lot to keep us busy in the days, weeks, and months ahead of us … not the least of which is finding furniture for the various rooms since we kept just a few pieces when we downsized to begin full timing. We’re not in a hurry. After all, we’re retired … we have plenty of time on our hands. Or so we think ;-)

Such a gorgeous sunrise! I still laugh when I see the dump photo. At first glance I thought you had been in a tornado.

ReplyDeleteOhmygosh, been there, done that! Lucky that you missed any bad weather, since there was so much around at the time. Haha, I like that last line ... or so we think! Beautiful sunrise to greet you in your new home.
